Acrylic cutting: The fun stuff...
I just love working with acrylic - it's so easy to work with! Easy to cut , great to etch...hang on, no etching on this case. I was after something "different" - and "different" is exactly what I ended up doing.
The case was pretty plain being only aluminium, so the red acrylic was put in place to highlight both the basic case design and to contrast all the aluminium used. It turns out to be a great colour combination, too.
Despite there being a lot of cuts, there's only one tool that I can trust for good acrylic work - my handy Dremel.
None of the work was cut with a laser or CNC - it's not that I have a problem with using them, just that it's not the way I like to do my work. It also helps that I didn't really have an option, as some of my cutting designs were altered or even created in the middle of the project.
First thing's first was the front panel and some red fan grills (not shown). Then, it was onto the side panels - one would have a complex vent pattern cut into it, bringing the bracket design into play.
The other side would have the case's logo cut out of it. Once all of the acrylic was complete, I backed it with some adhesive aluminium film. This would make sure that an opaque red would be what you could see, no matter what ended up being behind it. I really did not want any transparency.
